Ganesh Athappan, MD, FACC, is a board-certified cardiologist providing a number of essential cardiovascular health services to residents in the Brandon, Riverview, and Tampa areas of Florida. Fellowship trained in interventional cardiology and structural heart disease, Dr. Athappan develops individualized treatment plans to best address the needs of each patient.
After receiving his medical education from Madurai Medical College in Madurai, India, Dr. Athappan completed a residency in internal medicine at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, a major teaching site for Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. He then went on to complete his first cardiology fellowship at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, which is affiliated with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
Dr. Athappan also completed two interventional cardiology fellowships, one at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, and another at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. He completed his latest fellowship in structural heart disease at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
As a member of the team of physicians at South Shore Cardiovascular Associates, Dr. Athappan specializes in patient-centered, individualized treatment plans. He has extensive experience treating conditions affecting the heart tissue and valves, including congenital heart conditions. Dr. Athappan uses the latest cardiac interventions to reach optimal outcomes for his patients.
